Elmer L. Popejoy, 95, Greensburg, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Greensburg.
Born, November 1, 1915 in Wells County, Indiana, he was the son of Edward L. and Oniabelle (Wall) Popejoy.
He was retired. He had worked for the postal service for 25 years and at Chrysler for 17 years.
He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg, the American Legion, the VFW, the Disabled American Veterans and the 34th Infantry Division Association.
He was a veteran of the Army serving in WW II.
He was married to Garnet H. Hagerman on January 10, 1953 and she preceded him in death on March 6, 2006.
He is survived by one son, Daniel Popejoy, Bonaire, GA; one daughters, Cynthia Scott, St. Petersburg, FL; one step daughter, Susan Corbin, Mills River, NC; 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; one step son, John "Jack" Hinshaw, five brothers, Josiah, William, Franklin, Oscar and Robert Popejoy; two sisters, Luella Barnes, Elma Shaw.
Visitation will be from 1-3:00 p.m. Friday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 18, 2011 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg with Msgr. Harold Knueven officiating.
Interment will be held in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg.
The American Legion Post #129 will conduct military graveside services.
Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
