Joyce Leann Friend

December 9, 1948 — March 30, 2011

Joyce Leann Friend, 62, of Greensburg, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born, December 9, 1948 in Seymour, she was the daughter of William and Lillie Jordan. She was married to Clarence Linuel Friend, Jr. on June 20 1964, and he preceded her in death on May 14, 2010. Jr. and Joyce started Rock Valley Stone in 1973, and for 37 years they ran an honest, friendly, and family driven business. But more important than their business, they had their first child in 1964 and for 46 years were both amazing parents. Joyce may have only had five biological children, but she loved, supported, and helped raise dozens of people. She never turned her back on family, and to Joyce, family wasn't just people who were related by blood. To her, family could be anyone from the kid down the street who needed someone to talk to, distant relatives who needed a little help getting by, and anyone in need of a Mamaw. She is survived by five children; William Linuel Friend I, Greensburg, Teresa Lynn (Jeffrey) Ketchum, Greensburg, Lonnie Lee (Melanie) Friend I, Shelbyville, Tim Lee (Wendy) Friend, Greensburg, and Jamie LeAnn Oudard, Louisville, KY. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 sister; Nancy Jordan, and 1 daughter; Charlotte Leann Friend. Visitation will be from 3-7:00 PM Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg with Rev. Keith Dover officiating. Interment will be held following the funeral at Sandcreek Cemetery in Greensburg. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (jdrf.org).
