Don Robert Lowe

March 22, 1945 — April 8, 2011

On Friday, April 8, at the age of 66, Don Robert Lowe peacefully left his home on earth and entered into his heavenly home, where he was met by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as well as family and friends who had gone before him. He was born March 22, 1945 in Greensburg, the son of Floyd and Elizabeth (North) Lowe. He grew up around the Spring Hill area and graduated from Clarksburg High School in 1963. He went on to Purdue University where he earned a BS in Agricultural Economics (’67). Don returned home to go to work for Lowe’s Pellets & Grain, Inc, the family business started by his parents, where he worked until his passing. On April 18, 1970 he married Regina Werner, and together they built a life with each other. Don enjoyed working at the mill, the challenges the golf course brought, and spending time with family and friends. Don served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Reserve from 1967-1973. He was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, and former member of Springhill Presbyterian Church and St. John’s in Enochsburg. Don sat on many advisory boards, including Indiana Grain & Feed Dealers Assoc (former President), National Grain & Feed Assoc (Feed Committee), Country Elevator Council, Greensburg Country Club (former President and House Committee member), People to People Delegate to Japan, and Farmhouse Fraternity (President). He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Regina Lowe; father, Floyd Lowe; sons, Alan (Kristy) Lowe and Stephen (Diane) Lowe both of Greensburg; daughters, Dawn (Mark) Schuman of St. Leon, and Tammy Lowe of Pittsburgh, PA; sister, Doris Maines of Akron, OH; brothers, David (Patsi) Lowe of Amarillo, TX, Dale (Brenda) Lowe of Greensburg; and 8 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Lowe. Visitation will be 4 to 8pm (with a public rosary prayer service starting at 3:30pm) Monday, April 11 at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A memorial mass celebrating Don’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday April 12 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, also in Greensburg with Msgr. Harold Knueven officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Decatur County, and the Decatur County Community Foundation.
