Mabel L. (Hatfield) Bateman, 88, Greensburg, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg, Indiana.
Born, November 15, 1922 in Kemp, Illinois, she was the daughter of Oscar and Eliza (Jones) Hatfield.
Mabel spent her early childhood on a farm in Illinois. She then moved with her parents to Terre Haute, IN where she graduated from Gerstmeyer Technical High School. She moved to Brazil, Indiana after retiring from for the Brick Layer's Local #5. While living in Brazil she was a member of the Moose Lodge #991. Mabel moved to Sky Bird Manor in Greensburg in 2002 and became a part of the Sky Bird family. Mabel was a fun loving and giving person and enjoyed time with her family as well as her Sky Bird family and her First Baptist family until her death. She was an expert artisan in ceramics, and her family loved her home made peanut brittle.
She is survived by twelve nieces and nephews; Jewell Chambers, Greensburg, R. Brad Lawson, Terre Haute, Effie Reed, Terre Haute, Velma Bateman, Nashville, TN, Elsie Elmore, Terre Haute, Roberta Burns, Brazil, Don Hatfield, Sullivan, Sallie Roberts, Lake Barrington, Il., Barbara Sonner, Lexington, SC, Georgia Chappele, Plainfield, Maxine Phillips, Champaign, Il., Roy Francis Hatfield, Rantoul, Il.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She was the youngest of six children and they all preceded her in death; three brothers, Roy, Alfred and Francis Hatfield and two sisters, Vivian Lawson and Grace Hanks; one nephew, William Hanks, Jr. and one niece Lois Hanks Roberts Bell.
Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m.-.2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home with Rev. Cliff Bunch officiating.
Committal Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday in the northwest corner of Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Greensburg, IN.
