Ruth Marie Herbert

Ruth M. Herbert, 86, of Greensburg went to rest with the Lord on Monday, July 18th. She was born on July, 5, 1925, in Rush County, and was the daughter of Edward J. and Ruth F. (Mabee) Schreiner. She married Robert W. Herbert and he preceded her in death on February, 20, 1998. She is survived by 14 children, Don (Peggy) Herbert, Roberta (Melvin) Harpring, Richard (Jane) Herbert, Wilma (Drew) Cornn Young, Ruth Ann (Buck) Williams, Catherine Wilson, Rosemary (Bob) Ward, Barb (Mike) Greiwe, Joe (Lynn) Herbert, Sue (John) Burkhart, Walt (Barb) Herbert, Bill (Mary) Herbert, and Lynn (Ted) Redelman all of Greensburg, and Jim (Mary) Herbert of Columbus, IN. She was preceded in death by sons-in-law, Paul Nienabor, Larry Cornn, and Dale Wilson. She is also survived by brothers, Frank (Dorothy) Schreiner of Greensburg and Don (Kathy) Schreiner of Indianapolis and sisters Betty (Hank) Sandhage of Edinburgh, and Joan (Dennis) Tebbe of Madison. She was preceded in death by brothers, Paul (Bud) Schreiner, John Schreiner, Jim Schreiner, and a sister, Lucille Youngman. She had 42 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was a homemaker until after her having her last child. She then went to work at the Garrett Garment Factory. After the Garrett Garment Factory closed, she worked at Randall’s. She was a wonderful wife and a patient and loving mother. Her family was the joy of her life. In her retirement years, she enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s many activities. She always remembered everybody’s birthday. One of her favorite hobbies was picking out birthday cards to send to all of her family. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg at 10:00 am on Friday. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home. A public rosary will be prayed at 3:30 preceding the visitation.
