James L. Hood, 90, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at his residence in Greensburg.
Born, March 7, 1921 in Greensburg, Indiana, he was the son of Charles F. and Bessy M. (Robbins) Hood.
Jim graduated from Greensburg High School in 1938. He then enlisted in the Navy and served his country in WWII and Korea. He was also in the National Guard for 3 years.
Jim was married to Lois Whiteford on March 5, 1955 and she preceded him in death on October 11, 1994.
Jim worked for the Greensburg Police Department for 20 years and was a former club manager of the Greensburg American Legion. He was on the City Council for three terms, from 1980-92, and was on the Board of Works during that time also. Jim was baptized at the First Baptist Church where he attended services for many years. He also attended the Faith Baptist Church in Greensburg. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, the Greensburg American Legion, the Scottish Rite, the Greensburg V.F.W., the Eagles Lodge, and 40 – 8.
Jim is survived by 2 sons; Robert (Heidi) Hood, Indianapolis, Charles Hood, Greensburg, daughter; Jodi (Richard) Buell, Rome, Georgia, brother; Leland “Pid” Hood, New Castle, sister; Dorothy Foster, Greensburg, 6 grandchildren; Tricia Stephens, Greensburg, Amity Tharp, Clarksville, Tennessee, Riva Atkins, Indianapolis, Seth Buell, Noblesville, Kyle Hood, Greensburg, Alyssa Buell, Indianapolis, and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers; Scott, Charles Jr. “Hank”, and Lloyd Hood, and 3 sisters; Sally Holbrook, Margaret Bills, and Lorraine “Bo” Spillman.
Visitation will be held from 4-8:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2012 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg with a masonic service starting at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Selby officiating.
Interment and military graveside rites will be held in the South Park Cemetery in Greensburg, Indiana.
