Albert W. Schoettmer

Albert W. "Al" Schoettmer, 80, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the Morning Breeze in Greensburg. Born, December 23, 1931 in Decatur County, he was the son of Herman J. and Sarah M. (Wesseler) Schoettmer. He had worked at Mitchell Veneer, Bohn Aluminum, the Greensburg Community Schools, Stacy's Plumbing and Heating, was a South Decatur School bus driver and did carpentering. For 18 years he worked for the Decatur County Sherriff's Department where he served as Jail Commander from 1986 - 1994 and was a reserve from 1987-2003. He served as a special deputy and transporter after his retirement. He was a veteran of the US Army serving as an MP in the Korean War. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, VFW of Napoleon and past member of the Sherriff's Association. Albert enjoyed his tractors and guns. He loved hunting and playing cards. He was married to Pauline M. Lamping on October 21, 1954 and she survives. He is also survived by three brothers, Richard (Leona) Schoettmer, Greensburg, Ralph Schoettmer, Los Angeles, Ca., Ronald Schoettmer, Farmington, Ga.; seven sisters, Agnes (Herman) Wagner, Greensburg, Margaret (Steve) Greiwe, Greensburg, Kathleen (Dennis) Berkemeier, Greensburg, Virginia (Robert) Wamsley, Greensburg Mary Ann Sullivan, North Vernon, Lucille (Jim) Case, Elizabethtown, KY., Ruth Steinkamp, Leander, Tx.; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Alfred Schoettmer; one sister, Rose Marie Schoettmer. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Greensburg. A public rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Millhousen with Rev. Bill Turner officiating. Interment will be held in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Millhousen, Indiana. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of South Central Indiana or to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
