Walter D. Gentry, 98, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Morning Breeze in Greensburg.
Born, March 9, 1914 in Greensburg, he was the son of Clyde B. and Theresia (Fry) Gentry.
He graduated from St. Mary's grade school in 1928 and then from the Greensburg High School in 1932. He had worked for the Cyclone Fence Company and was a truck driver for the French Bauer Egg Company.
Walter was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Knights of St. John and the Eagles Lodge.
He was married to Laura Clara Blankman on September 27, 1939 and she preceded him in death on June 26, 1965.
He is survived by two sons, Donald Paul (Ruth H.) Gentry, Fountaintown, James David (Delphine) Gentry, Houghton, Mich.; five daughters, Roselyn Sullivan, Indianapolis, Mary Margaret Nobbe, Greensburg, Kathleen (James) Preuss, Greensburg, Barbara Walpole, Greenwood, Annette (Douglas) Wesemann, Franklin; 25 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Greensburg.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greensburg with Rev. John Meyer officiating.
A public rosary service will be held on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
Interment will be held in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Greensburg, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Meals on Wheels or the American Cancer Society.
