William J. Lecher

William J. "Bill" Lecher, 95, passed away Monday, August 13, 2012 at the Morning Breeze Nursing Home in Greensburg. Born, November 10, 1916 in Hamburg, Indiana, he was the son of Peter J. and Anna (Schulte) Lecher. He had farmed in Rushville for 8 years. He started the Lecher's Machine Shop in 1963 and owned and operated it until his son, Tim took over. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in WW II. He was a member of the St. Maurice Catholic Church, the Batesville VFW and the American Legion Post #129 in Greensburg. One of his favorite hobbies was hunting for ginseng. He was married to Martha R. Hoeing on October 21, 1950 in Rushville and she preceded him in death on August 17, 1982. He is survived by two sons, Timothy (Kathleen) Lecher, Greensburg, Raymond Lecher, Greensburg; three daughters, Rose Ann (Douglas) Bowman, Greensburg, Katherine "Katy" (Steve) Schmidt, Greensburg, Kathleen "Kathy" Lecher, Greensburg; four brothers, Joe (Elsie) Lecher, Greensburg, Ed (Luella) Lecher, Greensburg, Paul (Joanne) Lecher, Batesville, Jim Lecher, Batesville; one sister, Ida Nobbe, Batesville; five grandchildren, Greg (Stephanie) Lecher, Katrina (Mike) Cherry, Tara Bowman, Erica Schmidt, Jessica Schmidt; four great grandchildren, Ethan Lecher, Owen Lecher, Eli Lecher, and Evan Cherry. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, five brothers, Leo Lecher, George Lecher, Norbert Lecher, Herman Lecher, Harry Lecher; and one sister, Frieda Nobbe. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A rosary service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday for family and friends at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the St. Maurice Catholic Church in St. Maurice with Rev. George Joseph officiating. Interment and military graveside rites will be held in the St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of South Central Indiana.
