John V. Croy, 90, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Morning Breeze in Greensburg.
Born, January 23, 1922 in Crawfordsville, Indiana, he was the son of Harley and Katherine (Mitkus) Croy.
John graduated from the Crawfordsville High School and then received his Bachelor and Masters Degrees from Indiana State University.
He was a veteran of the US Navy serving in WW II as the Chief Navigator for the U.S.S. LST 122 in the Pacific Theatre.
John was the Band Director at North Decatur High School for many years. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Greensburg Senior Center, the American Legion and the VFW. He was the bugler for many military graveside services in the Greensburg area and also played "Taps" for the Memorial Day Service for several years..
He was first married to Marjorie Marshall on November 25, 1943 and she preceded him in death on July 8, 1979. He then was married to Suzanne Rust on May 31, 1980 and she survives.
He is also survived by three sons, Gregory S. (Mary) Croy, Avon, In, Christopher (Suzette) Croy, Roanoke, In, Paul (Nette) Croy, Ladson, SC; one brother, Robert Croy, Hobart, In; eight grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one son, Kevin Croy; one brother, James Croy.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2012 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A rosary for family and friends will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greensburg with Rev. John Meyer officiating.
Interment with military graveside services will be held in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg, Indiana.
Memorials may be made to the Greensburg-Decatur County Public Library.
