Larry G. Dance, 42, passed away on January 29, 2013 at his residence in Greensburg. He was born in Greensburg on December 31, 1970 to Gene and Margaret (Powers) Dance. Larry graduated from Greensburg High School in 1989. He then joined the Air Force and was a veteran of Desert Storm where he earned the Act of Bravery Medal among other honors. Larry served the community for 18 years at the Greensburg Police Department and was currently a Lieutenant. As a member of the police department, he had numerous accomplishments which included: former Officer of the Year, Tag Team Commander, Rescue Diver, Hostage Negotiator, Close Quarter Combat Instructor, Taser Electronic Control Device Instructor, Field Training Coordinator, Fire Investigator I, Ground Fighting & Survival Tactics Instructor, Primary Instructor for the Department, former member of the SWAT Team, and he was a former detective. Larry had an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University graduating Magna Cum Laude. He was also a former assistant wrestling coach for Greensburg High School. He participated in the World Police and Fire Games as a wrestler. He was a member of the American Legion and Eagles both in Greensburg, and was a former President of the FOP. Larry was married to Shannon Bray in November of 2010, and she survives. Other survivors include Larry’s parents, Gene and Margaret Dance, Greensburg, his three daughters, Mallory and Megan Dance, both of Greenwood, and Baili Hamilton, Greensburg, two brothers, Allen (Jane) Dance, Greensburg, and Terry (Christi) Dance, Greensburg, two sisters, Kathy (Mike) Howard, Greensburg, and Sharon (Alan) Edwards, Greensburg. Visitation will be held at the Community Church of Greensburg on Friday, February 1, 2013 from 3-8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Community Church of Greensburg on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Burial and military graveside rites will follow in South Park Cemetery in Greensburg. Memorials can be made to the Fraternal Order of Police.
