William Joseph "Bill" Schoettmer

William Joseph “Bill” Schoettmer, 66, Columbus, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Our Hospice in Columbus.  Bill was born in Greensburg on October 7, 1947 to Raymond and Mildred (Fry) Schoettmer.  Bill graduated from Sand Creek High School in Decatur County.  He then served in the United States Army as a Ranger during the Vietnam War.  Bill was retired from Cummins Inc. in Columbus.  He loved fishing and gardening and spending time with his family and grandchildren.  He is survived by three sons; Toby R. Schoettmer, Columbus, Troy A. (Michelle) Schoettmer, Columbus, Tim C. Schoettmer, Columbus, two sisters; Ruth E. (Gary) Atchley, Letts, Jean M. (Roger) Harrison, Westport, and 5 grandchildren; Brittany, Sara, Kyra, Tyus, and Jocelyn.  He was preceded in death by his parents; Raymond and Mildred Schoettmer.  A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 29, 2014 at 12 pm at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg with Sr. Christine Ernstes officiating.  Friends and family can call on Monday from 11 am until the time of the Memorial Service.  Interment and military graveside rites will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.  Memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion.
