Isabella Elizabeth Schoettmer

Isabella Elizabeth Schoettmer, 92, of Greensburg, passed away Monday, October 13, 2014 at Aspen Place Health Campus in Greensburg.  Isabella was born in Decatur County on May 4, 1922 to Henry B. and Elizabeth (Messerschmidt) Wolter.  She was married to Alfred T. Schoettmer on May 11, 1949 and he preceded her in death on February 1, 1986.  Isabella graduated from Greensburg High School in 1940. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Home Ec. “Know Your Neighbor” Club, she was active in Meals on Wheels, and she was a 71 year member of the St. Lawrence Ladies Auxiliary. Before she was married, Isabella worked as a beautician. She volunteered at St. Mary’s School in the library. She loved to play cards, and also loved to read and travel.  Isabella is survived by 3 sons; Donald Schoettmer, Greensburg, Thomas C. (Trudie) Schoettmer, Greensburg, James L. (Debra) Schoettmer, Greensburg, 3 daughters; Suzanne (Greg) Nicholas, Greensburg, Sharon Hillyer, Williamsport, IN, Deborah (Bill) Hinds, Indianapolis, 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild on the way.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 6 brothers; Lawrence, Leander, Charles, Leo, Paul, and Robert Wolter, and granddaughter; Kelsey Hillyer.  A Rosary Service will start at 3:30 p.m. followed by a St. Lawrence Ladies Auxiliary service on Wednesday at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home and visitation will follow until 8:00 p.m.  Visitation will also be held from 9-10 a.m. on Thursday, October 16 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.  Memorials can be made to the St. Mary’s Church Building Fund or to Decatur County Hospice.
