H. Carol Meer

October 22, 1930 — October 16, 2014

On October 16, 2014, Helen Carol Meer was reunited with loved ones she hasn't seen in years, including her husband, Ralph, and her daughter, Reatha. Though her passing will be mourned by those that survive her, her son, Malcolm (Brenda) Meer, Westport, son-in-law, Robert Thompson, Texas, 6 grandchildren, Rob and Matt Thompson, Texas; Ben Meer, Columbus, OH, Lee Meer, Greensburg, Liza (Chris) Williams, Greensburg, and Tyler (Keely) Meer, Cincinnati, OH, 2 step grandchildren, Monica (Lee) Miller, Osgood, and Chad Holzhause, Westport, and 5 great-grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren will celebrate the wonderful life she lived and the example in which she showed us how to be kind.  Carol, as everyone other than Ralph called her, was born in Greencastle, IN on October 22, 1930 to Irene and Jesse Sears. She graduated from Belle Union High School in 1948. One fateful Sunday after moving to Indianapolis, she took a bus ride south with a friend to Hamburg where she first laid eyes on Ralph, who was looking dapper in a purple shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. They quickly decided to spend the rest of their lives together and were married on August 16, 1952. They were members of St. Mary's Catholic Church and active in the community.  Carol enjoyed watching the Reds, Pacers, Colts and Jeff Gordon driving in circles. Her favorite hobbies included cooking meals that would feed armies, staying up too late, napping, cheating at euchre, quilting blankets, shopping, and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She loved to make a fuss over any and every one that walked into her house, which usually consisted of either trying to do their laundry or making you eat something, regardless if you were hungry or not. No one ever left Carol’s house hungry.  Carol was loved by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all those that knew her. She will be remembered most for her love, compassion, and dedication to her family.  She was so much too so many.  She will be greatly missed.  She was preceded in death by her parents and 4 sisters.  A Rosary Service will start at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home and visitation will follow until 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will also be held from 9-10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. with Rev. John Meyer officiating.  Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.  Memorials can be made to the St. Mary’s Church Building Fund.
