Jim Lawrence

June 20, 1932 — January 5, 2015

Jim Lawrence, 82 of Greensburg, passed away Monday, January 5, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenwood.  Jim was born on June 20, 1932 in Greensburg, the son of Edward and Irene (Barnes) Lawrence. Jim served during the Korean Conflict as a paratrooper with the 127th Airborne Engineers of the 11th Airborne Division.  He received his insurance license in 1956 and worked as a Life and Property/Casualty Insurance Agent. Jim was a member of the Greensburg American Legion Post 129, Forty & Eight, and the 11th Airborne Division Association.  Jim was an avid baseball fan, and had been a Cincinnati Reds season ticket holder for a long time.  Jim loved sports, architecture, history, and most of all, his family.  He was married to Dixie Banister on September 26, 1953 at the First Methodist Church in Greenfield, In., and she survives.  Jim is also survived by children; Lisa (Tim) Conk, Greensburg, Neil (Teresa) Lawrence, Greenfield, Tammy Woodard, Evansville, Barbara (Ray) Brown, Evansville, David (Denise) Lawrence, Greensburg, grandchildren; Aaron (Ashley) Conk, Mike (Melissa) Conk, Andy Conk, Ryan (Anita) Lawrence, Hillary (Matt) Ebejer, Kellen (Kate) Lawrence, Dawn (Jesse) Schwindel, Wayne (Malissa) Woodard, Paige Lawrence, David Lawrence, Olivia Lawrence, and Alyea Lawrence, great grandchildren; Elizabeth Conk, Alexander Conk, Nolan Conk, Parker Conk, Miles Lawrence, Luka Lawrence, Jesse Schwindel, Kylee Schwindel, Ethan Lawrence, Nyla Lawrence, Braxton Lawrence, and ready to welcome Bailee Schwindel.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers; Ed and Dale Lawrence. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 – 8 pm at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 am at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home with Pastor John Porter officiating.  Interment and military graveside rites will follow at South Park Cemetery.  Memorials can be made to the Decatur County Historical Society.
