William Lee "Bill" Edwards, 67, Greensburg, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2015 at Aspen Place in Greensburg.
Born, June 4, 1947 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of Charles Edwards and Lela Mae (Wyatt) Meece.
Bill was the Athletic Director at the Greensburg High School.
He graduated from Norwood High School in Norwood, Ohio in 1965. He received a bachelor's degree in political science from Cumberland College in 1969. He received a master's degree in education from Indiana University in 1973.
He served as the Junior High Athletic Director in Greensburg for 27 years. He was the Administrative Assistant at the Junior High for 8 years. Bill demonstrated the desire, commitment and follow-through necessary to lead a successful athletic program. He had been a tremendous educator, administrator, and coach in the Greensburg system.
His coaching numbers obtained through the school are as follows: Junior High Boys Track Coach, 247 wins and 3 defeats, Junior High Girls Track Coach, 197 wins and 3 defeats, Junior High Football Coach, 136 wins and 8 defeats, Junior High Boys Basketball Coach, 64 wins and 8 defeats.
Bill was an avid fisherman, sports fan and outdoorsman.
He was married to Joyce White on August 24, 1968 and she survives.
He is also survived by three sons, Chris Edwards, Justin Edwards, David Edwards, all of Greensburg; one sister, Judy (David) Huddleston, Ft. Thomas, Ky.; four grandchildren, Logan, Nathan, Josh and Gabriella.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step father, James Meece; one brother, Jerry Edwards; one sister, Debbie Witt.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Greensburg Community High School Gymnasium in Greensburg.
Services celebrating Bill's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the school with Pastor Jon Porter officiating. The family wishes all that attend to wear Greensburg Pirate gear in honor of Bill.
Interment will be held in the South Park Cemetery in Greensburg, Indiana.
Memorials may be made to the "Bill Edwards Scholarship Fund" through the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
