Richard E. Hampton, 87, south of Letts, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.
Born, April 2, 1927 in Decatur County, Indiana, he was the son of James R. and Viola Pearl (Chandler) Hampton.
Richard was a retired tool and die maker.
He was a Veteran of World War II first serving in the Merchant Marines in England and then serving in the Army in Germany.
He was married to Mildred F. "Frankie" Pool on July 2, 1945 and she survives.
He is also survived by three sons, Jim (Cheryle) Hampton, Greensburg, Joe (Patty) Hampton, Greensburg, David Russell Hampton, Greensburg; two daughters, Vickie (Bob) Gilmore, Nashville, In., Becky Sue (Bruce) Myers, Greensburg; 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, William, James Jr., Donald, John and Robert Hampton; two sisters, Naomi McLaughlin, Evelyn Myers; one great granddaughter, Jessica Ferrell.
Visitation will be from 11-1:00 p.m. Friday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015 at the funeral home with Rev. Cliff Bunch officiating followed by full military services to be held following the funeral.
Private burial will be held in the Mt. Aerie Cemetery in Letts.
