James Edward Doerflinger, 78, Greensburg, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.
Born, December 7, 1936 in Greensburg, he was the son of Edward L. and Vivian I. (Stout) Doerflinger.
He was married to Sheila Tekulve on February 16, 1963 at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville and she survives.
Jim graduated from Greensburg High School in 1955. He served in the Army after high school.
He had been a meter reader for Public Service and then worked at Decatur Insurance Agency for 10 years (1966-76). In 1976 he started and owned the Doerflinger Insurance Agency.
He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Elks Club. He was a former board member of the Greensburg Chamber of Commerce, a former board member of the YMCA, where he served as President for 2 years. Jim started the "Youth Sailboat Club" at the YMCA and received the Innovation Program of the Year award from the YMCA. Jim loved woodworking, sail boating, and was an avid fly fisherman.
He is also survived by one son, Stephen J. Doerflinger, Greensburg; one daughter, Susan L. (Dan) Burkhart, Greensburg; one brother, Dennis B. (Carol) Doerflinger, Greensburg; two grandchildren, Hannah M. Doerflinger, Ellison Burkhart.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends will gather at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home to pray the rosary. Visitation will follow the rosary until 8:00 p.m. at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greensburg with Rev. John Meyer officiating.
Interment will be held in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Church Building Fund.
