Arthur B. Ortman, 99, Greensburg, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at his residence. Born, September 28, 1916, in Millhousen, he was the son of George and Anna (Funke) Ortman. Arthur was a veteran of the Army and served in WWII. He was in the 79th Army Division. He was part of the Normandy invasion, then on through France to the Rhine River and then to Germany. As the war ended, he was assigned to guard German prisoners out in a field. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Millhousen, the VFW, the American Legion Post 129, served on the committee of the ASCS, and the Knights of St. John. Arthur was a farmer and also had worked as an insurance salesman for Farmers Union Insurance. He was married to Velma I. Picker on November 22, 1945 and she survives. He is also survived by three sons; Danny (Elaine) Ortman, Greensburg, Michael Ortman, Greensburg, Jim Ortman, Greensburg, one daughter; Nancy (Ortman) Huff, Marion, IN, 10 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Edward Ortman; two sisters, Clara Ortman, Catherine Veerkamp; one son-in-law, Dr. Robert Huff. Family and friends will gather at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home to pray the rosary. Visitation will follow the rosary until 7:00 p.m. at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. Visitation will also be held from 9-10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Bill Turner officiating. Burial and military graveside rites will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Millhousen. Memorials can be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church religious ed and grounds.
