Virginia (Ginny) Marie Jeffers Buck, 92, resident of Aspen Place, Greensburg, IN, died on January 5, 2016. She was born in Newark, Ohio in 1923. Ginny was a daughter of the late Harry C. and Mary E. Parmelee Jeffers. She graduated from Newark High School in 1941. She resided in Athens, GA, for over 40 years, until 2012 when she moved to Greensburg, IN.
Ginny earned a nursing diploma through White Cross School of Nursing in Columbus, OH, in 1944. She served in the US Army Nurse Corps during WWII from 1945-1946, serving on a hospital ship in the Pacific and a military hospital in Japan during the occupation.
In December 1947, she married James H. Buck (also from Lima and Newark, OH) in Seattle, WA. Throughout her married life, she and her husband moved 17 times until they retired from the military and settled in Athens, where Dr. Buck was a professor in the History Dept. of UGA. Ginny was very active in the Athens community - volunteering at the Episcopal Thrift House and Red Cross Blood drives, duplicate bridge clubs, University Women's Club, and various interest groups (quilting, gourmet cooking, sewing, embroidery, and knitting). She and her husband traveled extensively around the world in retirement and enjoyed every minute of it. Ginny very much enjoyed her move to Greensburg, IN, and Aspen Place where she lived for the last 3 years. She made several new friends at Aspen Place and was very active in their morning exercise program and bingo. She also enjoyed the many bridge games she got to play, including the annual bridge fund-raisers for the Greensburg Library, where she won a prize each year she participated.
She is survived by two daughters, Jan K. Filler and Nancy L. Buck, and two great-grandchildren, Zaila F. Filler and Zaven L. Filler, all of Greensburg.
She was predeceased by her husband, James H. Buck; one daughter, Julie (JB) M. Thompson; two sons-in-law, Garry G. Filler and Randall (Randy) M. Thompson; and three grandsons, David Z. Filler, Steven J. Filler, and James (JR) R. Thompson.
