William T. “Bill” McCarter, 78, Greensburg passed away on April 4, 2016 at home with his family at his side. Bill was born on June 11, 1937 in Betsy, KY to Rebecca McCarter. He was raised by his grandparents; Theo and Ora Meadows. Bill graduated from Burney High School. He then worked for Cummins from 1957 until retiring in 1995. After retiring, Bill went on to be a school bus driver for Decatur County Schools from 1996 until now. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church in Greensburg, where he was also a Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, and Youth Leader. Bill was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Greensburg, the Scottish Rite in Indianapolis, and the Shriners, where he was very active in driving the children to their appointments at the hospital. Bill was a Little League coach for 13 years, he loved to go fishing, espescially in the ocean, he worked on small engines and old cars, and most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Bill was married to Marlene J. Bruner on June 29, 1957 at the First Baptist Church and she survives. Bill is also survived four children; Pam (Byron) Baltus, Greensburg, Diana (Jody) Coombs, Bradenton, FL, Jim McCarter, Greensburg, and Brad (Debbie) McCarter, Greensburg, one brother; Lawrence Duncan, four sisters; Marie James, Pauline Tichnor, Ruby Jean Repp, and Delta Sanmiguel, ten grandchildren; Jason (Jenn) Baltus, Daniel (Sara) Capper, Stephen Capper, Chris (Nicole) McCarter, Matthew McCarter, Brock McCarter, Nathan McCarter, Samantha (Jorge Lockard) McCarter, Drew McCarter, and Lynn Coombs, six great grandchildren; Zoe Capper, Addison Baltus, Damion Capper, Annabelle McCain, Emma McCarter, and Ella Poling, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law; Brian J. Capper, six siblings; Mae Bultman Carter, Mildred Duncan, Robert Meadows, Ronald Duncan, and (twins) Theo and Cleo Duncan. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8:00pm at Porter Oliger Pearson Funeral Home with a Masonic Service taking place at 7:30 pm. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 7 at the First Baptist Church in Greensburg with Rev. Cliff Bunch officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Aerie Cemetery in Letts. Memorials can be made to the Shriners, Parkinson’s Foundation, or the First Baptist Church.
