Dale E. Zapfe

Dale E. “Monk” Zapfe, 73, Osgood and a former resident of Greensburg, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2009 in the Ruth Lilly Hospice Center at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born, October 1, 1935 in Greensburg, Indiana, he was the son of Gilbert H. “Buck” and Fern (Klausing) Zapfe. He first worked at Hahn’s Filling Station and in 1964 he went to work at Brown’s Marathon.  He attended St. Mary’s School and then graduated from Greensburg High School in 1954. He was married to Mattijean Allen on April 14, 1964 and she preceded him in death on December 8, 2001.  He is survived by one son, Kevin (Becky) Brown, Osgood; three brothers, Robert L. (Diane) Zapfe, Greensburg, Don R. Zapfe, Greensburg, Michael (Gilda) Zapfe, Denver, Co.; one sister, Mary J. Swango, Greensburg; two grandchildren, Nicole and Christopher Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at the South Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Christopher Brown Trust Fund.
