Merle George Herbert

Merle G. Herbert, 79, Greensburg, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Greensburg. He was born in Decatur County on September 8, 1929. He was the son of Bernard and Bertha (Young) Herbert. Merle had worked for Mitchell Veneer Industries. He worked as an independent logger for many years. He was the former owner and operator of Herbert’s Sales & Service in Greensburg until his retirement. He enjoyed flying small airplanes, car racing, and was a lifetime member of the Decatur County Conservation Club. He was married to Ruby Carter on March 20, 1948 and she survives.  He is also survived by two sons, Jerry Herbert, Greensburg, Joseph Herbert, Greensburg; one daughter, Linda (Richard) Gibson, Greensburg; one brother, Marvin (Nancy) Herbert, Greensburg; five grandchildren, Kelsey Herbert, Stephanie Redmon, Chris (Kristi) Herbert, Greenfield, Erik  Wilmer, Hebron, Ky., Heather Kunze, Greensburg; six great grandchildren, Hailey 16, Bryce 15, Levi 10, Blake 8, Olivia 5, Bryce 4. He was preceded in death by his parents; one bother Delmar Herbert and one sister, Evelyn Roszell. There will be no public visitation or funeral.  Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg has been entrusted with the arrangements.
