Gilbert A. “Jack” Beagle, 85, Greensburg, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital.
Born, December 5, 1923 in Burney, Indiana, he was the son of John G. and Nettie S. (Holzback) Beagle.
He was a Sergeant in the Army serving during WW II.
He had farmed for 20 years. He also had worked as a salesman for Schlemmer Wholesale retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, the Eagles Lodge and the American Legion. He had been a high school basketball referee for 22 years. He played baseball for Greensburg, Batesville, Oldenburg, Sunman, Manchester, Nashville and Richmond. He also played baseball in Japan for 8 months following WW II.
He is survived by two sons, Ronnie A. Beagle, Greensburg, Kenneth J. Beagle, Gilbert, Az.; one brother, Ray (Jeannie) Beagle, Greensburg; two sisters, Mary Gaalema, Indianapolis, Gertrude “Trudy” Martin, Langley, Wa.; one sister-in-law, Marion Beagle, Greensburg; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Delton “Gene” Beagle; two sisters, Norma Ooley, Freda Powell.
Visitation will be from 9-11:00 a.m. Friday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2009 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg with Rev. Dan Wolford officiating.
Interment will be held in the South Park Cemetery in Greensburg with military graveside services.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Greensburg.
