Sylvia C. Ortman, 96, Greensburg, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Morning Breeze Nursing Home in Greensburg. Born, March 8, 1913 in Millhousen, she was the daughter of George and Lena (Hardebeck) Fry. She was married to Frank G. Ortman on June 27, 1936 in Millhousen and he preceded her in death on October 27, 1993. Sylvia was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg. She enjoyed playing cards, watching sporting events, loved her garden and flowers, and dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sons; Dale E. Ortman, and Gary F. (Linda) Ortman, both of Greensburg, four daughters; Mary Jane (Maurice) Buening, Greensburg, Patricia (Paul) Van Dorn, Noblesville, Susan McPherson, Pleasant Ridge, MI, and Debra (Jerry) Vanderbur, Westport, 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son; Richard Allen Ortman who died in infancy, one daughter; Carol Hermesch, two brothers; Urban Fry and Omer Fry, one sister; Stella Carrigan, two half-brothers; Raymond and Walter Fry, one half-sister; Bertha Meyer, and two grandchildren; Michael Wayne Hermesch and Dennis John Buening. Visitation will be from 4-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday prior to visitation. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg with Msgr. Harold Knueven officiating. Interment will be held in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Millhousen. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Decatur County, 1201 N. Lincoln St., Suite A, Greensburg, IN 47240, www.hospiceofsouthcentralindiana.org., or to the St. Mary’s School.
