Ernest O. “Sonny” Simmons, 70, Greensburg, died Monday, December 14, 2009 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Greensburg.
Born, April 7, 1939 in Lexington, Kentucky, he was the son of Joseph Simmons and Gladys (Buell) McGregor.
He was a truck driver, the former street commissioner for the city of Greensburg, and the former supervisor for NAC in North Vernon.
He was a veteran of the Army. He was a former member of the Eagles Lodges and the American Legion.
He is survived by two sons, David O. (Barbara) Simmons, Canandaigua, NY, Darrin Simmons, Greensburg; one sister, Carolyn Collins, Greensburg; two nephews, Donnie (Wendy) Snyder, Greensburg, Sonny (Melody) Snyder, Greensburg; 6 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Archibald "Bud" McGregor; one son, Steven Simmons; one sister, Wanda Merfeld .
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 18, 2009 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg with Rev. Glenn Seaman officiating.
Interment will be held in the Soldiers Circle at South Park Cemetery. The VFW and American Legion will conduct military graveside services.
