Howard "Gene" Zapfe, 65, Greensburg, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at the Methodist Hospital Hospice in Indianapolis. Born, January 31, 1945 in Greensburg, Indiana, he was the son of Maurice A. Zapfe and Ruby F. (Goodpaster) Hunt. He was retired from the Colonial Baking Company in Greensburg. Gen graduated from Greensburg High School in 1963. He was a member of the American Legion Post #129, the 40 & 8, The VFW and the Eagles Lodge. He was attending the New Point Christian Church. He was a veteran of the Marines and served in Vietnam. He was married to Dianna Shafer on June 13, 1965 she survives. He is also survived by one son, Bobby (Michele) Zapfe, Greensburg; one sister, Beverly Ruble, Greensburg; one grandson, Nicholas Zapfe, Greensburg; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step father, James Hunt; one sister, Dottie Rubbe. Visitation will be from 2-6:00 p.m. Monday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg with Rev. Mark Vice officiating. Interment will be held in the South Park Cemetery in Greensburg. The American Legion Post #129 will conduct military graveside services. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Decatur County, the New Point Christian Church or to Cancer Research through the funeral Home.
