Francis E. Hagerty, 89, Greensburg, passed away on Friday, July 9, 2010 at the Arbor Grove Village in Greensburg. Born, March 25, 1921 in Daviess County, Indiana, he was the son of Herman and Helen (Thompson) Hagerty. Throughout his youth, Francis was known for his athletic ability. He played baseball and basketball. After graduating from high school he lived in Indianapolis where he worked and continued to play baseball in the Indianapolis city leagues. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg He served in the South Pacific in the Marines in World War II and then also served in the Korean War. He was owner and operator of the Francis Hagerty Construction Company. He was married to Agnes C. Wathen on November 22, 1941 and she survives. He is also survived by ten children, Larry (Kathy) Hagerty, North Vernon, Bernie (Janet) Hagerty, Greensburg, Dale Hagerty, Letts, Jim (Marietta) Hagerty, Westport, Alice (Bob) Back, Westport, Nancy (Dan) Schroeder, Greensburg, Dennis (Susie) Hagerty, Greensburg, Dorothy (Steve) Scudder, St. Paul, Teresa (Joel) Diedrich, Georgia, John Hagerty, Greensburg; one brother, Rick Hagerty, Loogootee; three sisters, Wilma (Earl) McAtee, Indianapolis, Dorothy (Ed) Spalding, Indianapolis, Connie (Glenn) McAtee, Loogootee; 32 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lon Hagerty, Robert Hagerty, Bernard Hagerty; two sisters, Betty Lou, Janice Kay. Visitation will be from 4-8:00 p.m. Monday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A public rosary service will be held on Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg with Msgr. Harold Knueven officiating. Interment will be held in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The American Legion Post #129 will conduct military graveside services. Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Catholic Church.
