Margaret Mauer, 89, Greensburg, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2010 at the Morning Breeze in Greensburg.
Born, November 14, 1920 in Decatur County, she was the daughter of Gregory A. and Charlotta E. (Stier) Schroeder.
Margaret graduated from St. Paul High School. She worked for several years at La Bolts Motel and in admissions at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.
She was an active member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church where she had been a Eucharistic minister, former director of the CYO, taught religious education classes, was active with the marriage encounter group and was honored as "parishioner of the year". She was a member of the D of I and the Delta Tau Delta Sorority. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a Township woman's leader for the Farm Bureau.
She was married to Leonard J. Mauer on October 5, 1943 and he survives.
She is also survived by five sons, Michael Mauer, Greensburg, Roger Mauer, Profret Circle, Ct., Mark (Mary Kay) Mauer, Indianapolis, Timothy (Maria) Mauer, Greensburg, Larry (Patty) Mauer, Terre Haute; five daughters, Angela Kelly, Mt. Prospect, Il., Ruth Ann Cook, Austin, Tx., Mary Jo (Paul) Nieman, Waldron, Judy Mauer, Fortville, and Nita Mauer and her partner Tina Caldwell, Cincinnati, Oh.; two brothers, David A. Schroeder, Indianapolis, Justin R. Schroeder, Rushville; two sisters, Catherine Mauer, St. Maurice, Teresa Horan, Greensburg; 22 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Carl J., Paul G. and Louis B. Schroeder; two sisters, Sr. Rose Mary Schroeder, Sr. Cecilia Schroeder; one son-in-law, Timothy Kelly.
Visitation will be from 4-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A public rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 23, 2010 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greensburg with Msgr. Harold Knueven.
Interment will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg, Indiana.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's School Fund or the Hospice of Southeastern Indiana.
