Robert M. Hutchison, 89, Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at the St. Joseph Mercy Health Center in Hot Springs.
Born, December 20, 1920 in Greensburg, Indiana, he was the son of Robert W. and Nellie F. (Sheldon) Hutchison.
He retired from the Indiana Gas Co. in April of 1983. He served as the chief clerk of the gas company in Greensburg and Huntington. He then served as the commercial manager in the Bedford-Mitchell office and then the Columbus-Seymour office.
He graduated from Greensburg High School and then attended Huntington College. He served in the US Army during WW II and was stationed in Africa, Italy and Okinawa.
He was a former member of the Greensburg Concert Band, the Erie Railroad Band, the Bedford City Park Band, the Columbus City Band, the Silver Tones Choir at the Senior Citizens Center in Columbus and the West Shores Retirement Wind Chimes in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He served as President of Exchange Club in Huntington. He was a past board of director of the Chamber of Commerce in Bedford.
He was a member of the High 12 Club in Columbus, the Kiwanis Club in Bedford and Columbus, The Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, the Shrine Club and the Cedars American Legion of Lebanon. He was a 2 term president of the "Coachman Camping Club". He was awarded the American Gas Association "Carter Medal" for saving a childs life. He was a former member of the 1st Christian Church in Greensburg, the 1st Christian Church in Bedford where he served as Treasurer, Deacon and Elder, the 1st Baptist Church and Fireside Class in Columbus. He was a present member of the 1st Lutheran Church in Hot Springs after moving to the West Shores Retirement Home in Hot Springs.
He was married to June Skinner on January 12, 1947 and she preceded him in death on November 11, 2004.
He is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Paul) Roberts, Hot Springs, Suzanne (R.J.) Reynolds, Heritage Lake, In.; five grandchildren, Amy (Rob) Snyder, Stacey (Mike) Assheur, Allison Roberts, Jonathan (Shawn) Reynolds, Jeffrey (Danyelle) Reynolds; 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one sister, Lois Ileen Clark.
Visitation will be from 10-1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Interment will be held in the South Park Cemetery in Greensburg.
The American Legion Post #129 will conduct military graveside services.
