Alvin J. Kramer

Alvin J. “Al” Kramer, 73, Greensburg passed away on Friday, November 6, 2020 at his residence. Born September 26, 1947 in Shelbyville, Indiana, he was the son of John and Elenora (Werner) Kramer.  Al graduated from Greensburg High School in 1965. He worked for American Lifts for over 30 years. He purchased land and farmed it since 1971.  He was proud to have served in the Army reserves.  He had played and coached CYO basketball, played softball, basketball, and bowled.  He loved to hunt squirrels and rabbits in his younger days.  He enjoyed watching Indiana University and Greensburg Pirate basketball.  Al was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Greensburg. Al was married to Rita A. Knecht on May 27, 1972 and she preceded him in death on December 10, 2001.  He then married Cathy (Herbert) Wilson on April 18, 2015 and she survives. Al is also survived by three sons, Eric (Cheri) Kramer, Greensburg, Chris (Kristin) Kramer, Fishers, Adam (Gina) Kramer, Indianapolis; three step sons, Jeff (Rushda Afzal) Wilson, Canton, MI, Brian (Jen) Wilson, Sunman, Wade Wilson, Columbus; three brothers, Harold (Anna Mae) Kramer, Norbert (Jeanie) Kramer, Jim Kramer, six sisters, Rita (Howard "Bud") Meyer, Clara (Robert) Dwenger, Marilyn (David) Berkemeier,  Kathryn (Larry) Berkemeier, Jean Campfield, Carol (Larry) Bishop; one sister-in-law, Helen Kramer; 13 grandchildren and many nieces and  nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife; two brothers, Raymond Kramer and Michael Kramer; two sisters, Frieda Hellmich and Judy Kramer; one grandchild, Madison Faith Kramer. While observing CDC and state guidelines for social distancing and required facial coverings, a rosary for family and friends will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg followed by public visitation until 8:00 p.m. and also on Thursday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. with a funeral mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. at the church with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg.  Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to the American Heart Association.
