Barbara Jean Wamsley

June 7, 1928 — October 9, 2024

Barbara Jean Wamsley, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on October 9, 2024, in Greensburg, Indiana. Born on June 7, 1928, to Aloysius and Anna (Stier) Scheidler, Barbara lived a life filled with hard work, love, and joy.

A proud graduate of Greensburg High School, Barbara began working at the tender age of 13. Over the years, she devoted her time and talents to various companies, including Sunny Crest, Crown Zellerbach, and Carol Cook Dress Factory. Her last position was at O'Mara Foods, where she spent over 20 years and formed lasting friendships that felt like family. Barbara retired at the age of 86, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and resilience.

A lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Barbara’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing ball with the boys, barbecuing, cheering on the Cincinnati Reds, and bowling—where she was an accomplished left-handed bowler, proudly participating in Thursday night leagues.

Barbara had a passion for gardening, and her vibrant flowers often overtook her yard, reflecting her nurturing spirit. She also had a deep love for her dogs, who brought her much happiness throughout her life.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Don Wamsley, her parents Aloysius and Anna Scheidler, and her siblings: Kathryn "Kay" Meyer, Jim Scheidler, and Marjorie Johannigman. She was also preceded in death by her grandson Matthew Grimes, daughter-in-law Kathy Smith, and stepdaughter Diana (Wamsley) Tulloch.

She is survived by her children: Nancy (Duke) Grimes, Don Smith, Hugh (Paige) Smith, Virginia "Ginny" Horton, and two stepsons Don Wamsley Jr. and Dale Wamsley.   Barbara is also cherished by her seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters, Mary Ann Welage and Dottie Hoeing.
