Betty L. Gauck

Betty L. Gauck, age 101, of Columbus, passed from this life Thursday, May 26, 2022 at her home. She is a former resident of Greensburg, IN.

Betty was born February 9, 1921, in Porter County, Indiana, the daughter of John and Minnie Ava Bickel. She graduated from Washington Township High School in 1934 and St. Joseph Business School. She married Walter Gauck at Moody Field, Valdosta, Georgia on July 15, 1944. He preceded her in death on August 26, 1955.

Betty worked as a secretary at the AAA Extension Office, Clarksburg School, and the Greensburg Veterinary Clinic. She retired after many years as a teller at the Greensburg First Federal Savings and Loan. She was a member of Greensburg United Methodist Church where she served on various committees. She was also a member of the Decatur County Rural Couples Club, BPW, DAR, and Psi Lota Xi Sorority.

Betty loved following her favorite TV sports teams, enjoyed traveling and playing canasta in card clubs. She liked the challenge of completing the newspaper daily jumble and crossword puzzle.

Betty is survived by a son, John (Anita) Gauck; daughters: Sue and Rita, all of Columbus, Indiana; many nieces, nephews, and their extended families. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters; Vera Alexander, Ruth Phillips, Leola McMurtry, Doris Vanderbur, and brothers; John and Walter Bickel.

The funeral service will be conducted at the Greensburg United Methodist Church on Tuesday, May 31 at 12:00 PM with Pastor Laura Apostol officiating. Visitation will be held for 1 hour prior to the service.

Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greensburg, Indiana.
