David L. Mchenry

November 17, 1942 — August 30, 2024

David L. McHenry of Franklin, passed away at Methodist Hospital on August 30, 2024, after a short but difficult battle with pancreatic cancer.

David was born in Greensburg, IN on November 17, 1942, to parents Frank W. (Mac) and Virginia (Boling) McHenry.  David is a 1960 graduate of Greensburg Community High School. He attended Purdue University prior to enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1964. While in the Air Force, he collected certifications as a communications specialist from Syracuse University.  After serving in the United States Air Force, he went on to graduate from Indiana University with a degree in accounting.

David was preceded in death by his mother (Virginia), father (Frank W), brother-in-law (Nick Williams), and niece (Libby Yarnelle).

He is survived by his wife Cynthia “Cindy” (Williams), His brother Fred McHenry (Karen), his sister Mary Gerber (Gary), and his four children, Katie Chobot (Ed), Brian McHenry (Dawn), Jason McHenry (Lindy), and David L. McHenry II. Dave is also survived by his six grandchildren, Ethan, Taylor, Ben, Parker, Cameron, and Annabelle as well as two nieces, Alexa Frank (Daniel), and Katie Ochs (Joey), two nephews Kent Williams, and Mike Dodson (Angie), and great nephews Sawyer, Silas, Alex, Evan, and Austin, and great niece Erika.

After graduation, he was fortunate enough to get a job with a major accounting firm in Indianapolis but quickly realized that he wanted to be his own boss.  He moved back to Greensburg and started his own CPA firm.  His tenacity and drive to start a grassroots business and his heart for taking care of people was evident in how he ran his business but also in how he led his family.  That drive and passion that he embodied is evident in each of his four children.

In 1980 David married Cindy, his wife of 44 years.  Having met in Greensburg through a mutual friend, they decided to keep their roots in Greensburg.

While Monday through Friday he was dedicated to his clients, he sincerely loved his family time.  Weekends on the boat or gatherings at the house around the pool are where his smiles were the biggest.  If you were on Kessler Boulevard and listened closely in the evenings during IU basketball seasons, you might be able to hear him providing constructive feedback to the referees from his recliner.

The celebration of life service will be held at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg, IN on September 6th.  Close family can visit from 1-2 and friends can pay their respects from 2-4.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Riley Children’s Hospital or Franklin Community High School Unified Sports program.
