Dixie M. Lawrence

May 1, 1935 — February 16, 2024

Dixie M. Lawrence, 88, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Morning Breeze in Greensburg, surrounded by family. Dixie was born on May 1, 1935, in Clarksburg, IN, the daughter of Morris and Myrtle (Arnold) Banister.

Dixie was a lifelong wife, mother, and homemaker. She loved being with her family, entertaining friends, and working on the old historic home she and her husband Jim purchased many years ago.

Dixie loved fashion, antiques, decorating their home, and most of all her family. She was also a lifelong animal lover and pet owner, nurtured by her grandfather who was a veterinarian in southeastern Indiana. She occasionally surprised her family as well with her ability to swing a baseball bat, left-handed, and hit a good line drive.

She was married to Jim Lawrence on September 26, 1953, at the First Methodist Church in Greenfield, IN, and they were married for 61 years. Dixie and Jim welcomed so many kids into their home over the years and some thought of her as a second mom. Dixie is survived by children: Lisa Conk of Greensburg, IN, Neil (Teresa) Lawrence of Kokomo, IN, Tammy Woodard of Evansville, IN, Barbara (Ray) Brown of Evansville, IN, David Lawrence of Greensburg, IN; grandchildren: Aaron (Ashley) Conk, Mike (Melissa) Conk, Andy Conk, Ryan (Anita) Lawrence, Hillary (Matt) Ebejer, Kellen (Katie) Lawrence, Wayne Woodard, Paige Lawrence, David Lawrence, Olivia Lawrence, and Alyea Lawrence; and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents; brothers: William Banister and Buddy Banister; and son-in-law, Tim Conk.

The family would like to thank the employees and caretakers of Crown Pointe Senior Living Community, Morning Breeze, Gentiva Hospice, especially Linda, Samantha, and Jassah, as well as Ciara Loudin who loved and cared for her for several years.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, from 11am to time of service at 1pm at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home with Pastor Ray Sweet officiating. A private burial with immediate family will follow at South Park Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Greensburg-Decatur County Animal Shelter.
