Ed J. Lecher

April 5, 1928 — May 31, 2022

Edward Joseph Lecher, 94, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Heritage House of Greensburg. Ed was born in Hamburg on April 5, 1928, to Peter and Anna (Schulte) Lecher. He was a farmer and mechanic and also served in the Korean War, where he was a lineman. He married Luella Harpring on May 1, 1954. In their 64 years together, Ed and Luella created a family full of love, food and fun. Their kitchen table was the center of countless gatherings.

Ed was a business owner that specialized in farm services and engine repair. His shop was a gathering place where farmers, family and friends were always welcome to take a break, share a cool drink, solve the world’s problems, or tell stories. He was also known for his prize-winning trap shooting and hunting abilities, annual rabbit fries, aggressive political commentary and colorful way with words.

Ed is survived by two daughters; Brenda (Chuck) Emsweller, Rushville, Julie (Tom) Keillor, Greensburg, one brother; Jim Lecher, Batesville, three grandchildren; Chad (Jennifer) Emsweller, Evansville, Ashley (Adam) Hungate, Saint Paul, and Danielle (Brad) Whittaker, Milroy, and six great grandchildren; Eddie, Joey, Ellie and Paul Hungate, and Charlie and Julia Emsweller. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sons; Nicholas and Bernard, eight brothers; Joe, Paul, Leo, George, Norbert, Herman, Harry and William and two sisters; Ida Nobbe and Freida Nobbe.

Visitation is 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 7 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the rosary at 8:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Burial and military rites are at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southeastern Indiana or the Little Souls project in care of St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Ed’s family would like to thank the amazing staff at Heritage House, especially “Ed’s girls” for their wonderful care during his time there.

Ed was known for his words of wisdom. One of his frequent sayings was “It takes just as much effort to have a bad day, as it does to make a good day. It’s your choice.” In honor of Ed, make today a good day.
