Francis “Whitey” A. Wesseler, 76, Greensburg, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at his residence.
Born, February 25, 1944 in Batesville, Indiana, he was the son of Joseph Henry and Cecilia (Bedel) Wesseler.
Whitey graduated from Jac-Cen-Del High School in 1962 and then served in the National Guard. He retired from Cummins after 45 years of service. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed working in the yard and garden as well as traveling. He loved socializing with friends and never met a stranger.
He married Rita L. Elsner on October 2, 1965 and she preceded him in death on September 12, 1975. He married Angela Brooks on October 25, 1996 and she survives.
He is also survived by five children, Eric (Jaime) Wesseler, Jeni (Steve) Niese, Scott (Candi) Wesseler, Mark (Nyree) Wesseler, Jill (Carl) Wilmer; two step children, Annette Harling, Bobby Brinkman; three brothers, Bernard (Patsy) Wesseler, Donald (Beth) Wesseler, Cletus Wesseler; two sisters, Elvera (David) Muckerheide, Barbara (Martin) Retzner; 23 grandchildren, Taylor, Luke, Will, Deric, Rheannan, Grant (Kara), Seth, Megan, Kerigan, Haley, Layne, Paige, Brandon (Michelle), Nikayla, Riley, Latham, Zoey, Olivia, Emma, Ava, Clayton, Cooper, and Jack; 5 great grandchildren, Maeve, Dawson, Everly, Rhys and Raegan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and 2 grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church to pray the rosary. Visitation will follow, observing CDC and state guidelines for social distancing and facial coverings until 10:45 a.m. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bill Ehalt officiating and will be broadcast on the funeral home Facebook page. Burial will be held in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greensburg. Memorials may be made to the Bread of Life or to the Champions of Youth.
