George E. Pope, 87, Greensburg, passed away on June 2, 2021 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital. Born May 3, 1934 in Cynthiana, Kentucky, he was the son of Turley and Anna Mary (Toll) Pope.
George was a member of the New Point Christian Church. George married Doris (Fightmaster) Pope on December 25, 1955. George and Doris owned and operated Doris’ Sugar Shack for 32 years before retiring. George enjoyed bowling and fishing in his spare time.
Survivors include his daughter; Kimberly L. Pope, son; Charles “Woody” (Kristina) Pope, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, brother; Henry (Betty) Pope, sisters; Helen Mitchell, Cordella Bennett, Mary Sue Copage and several nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Doris (Fightmaster) Pope, daughter; Georgia DeLynn Goodpastor, brothers; Edgar Pope, William Pope, Ira Pope, sisters; Louis “Amo” Henderson, Joy Smolinski.
Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2021 at the New Point Christian Church. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at the New Point Christian Church with Rev. Mark Vice officiating. Burial will follow at Greendale Cemetery in Osgood. Memorials may be made to the funeral home to help with the funeral expenses.
