George Lee Rohrig Jr.

George Lee Rohrig Jr., 69, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at his home in Greensburg, IN. George was born on August 12, 1952, at home in Versailles, IN. He was the oldest son of Iris (Steele) and George L. Rohrig Sr.

George learned to work on cars at an early age, a skill he used throughout his life, and earned him the nickname “Grubby”.

He was a maintenance man by trade, retiring from Hil-Rom in 2016 after 44 years of service. George could fix almost anything and often did for family and friends.

In his spare time, he could be found “hanging out” at Milan Shell/Myers Marathon. George graduated from Milan High School in 1971. He loved his large family and rarely missed a family get together, especially all his “babies” – his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his sweetheart of 29 years, Margaret Derflinger; three daughters: Jennifer Lynn (Chris) Ison, Julie Ann (Tim) Hunter, Faith Marie Case (Don Roemer); two step daughters: Michelle (Brian) Lang, Brandi (Kevin) Kaiser; one stepson, Chris Derflinger (Ginger Brown); 20 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren, with one more on the way; six sisters: Nita Gulley, Carolyn Sue (Jerry) Ellis, Rolena Newman (Ed Paulus), Cindy Parker, Georgia Leann Albury, Kim Goodpaster; four brothers: Fred (Linda) Rohrig Sr., Joe Ryan, Sam Rohrig, Jerry Ryan; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepparents; infant brother, David Ryan; brothers: Mike Ryan, Jim Ryan, Steve Ryan, and Don Ryan; brothers-in-law: Tony Gulley, Raymond Norman Sr., Kevin Albury; son-in-law, Eddie Case; sister, Sherri Higgins; and nephew, Raymond Norman Jr.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 11:00 am also at the funeral home, with an additional hour of visitation before the service.  Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greensburg.
