Helen An Owens, 78, went into the arms of Jesus on June 4, 2021 at Arbor Grove Village in Greensburg, Indiana.
Helen was born February 4, 1943 to parents, Joseph Schwendenman and Mabel Meer Schwendenman in Rushville, Indiana. She was the third oldest of four children: her sister, Mary Sieg Hoover; brother, Thomas E. Schwendenman; and brother, Michael D. Schwendenman.
On September 18, 1976 she married Frankie Eugene Owens at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg. Together they had one daughter, Cathy Ann Owens, born in 1983; and later a son, Chad Owens, born October 8, 1972.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frankie; daughter, Cathy, brother, Thomas; sister-in-law, Marilyn Schwendenman; two brothers-in-law, Eugene Sieg and Samuel Hoover; and niece, Jane E. Stillson.
She is survived by son, Chad Owens, Greensburg; sister, Mary Hoover, Plymouth, IN; brother, Michael Schwendenman, Martinsville, IN; grandchildren: Jesse Owens, Natasha Owens, Cierra Owens; 8 great grandchildren; nephew, Daniel (Judy) Sieg, Corydon, IN; niece, Julia (Mark) Gibbs, Ottawa Lake, MI; Janice (Perry) Pruitt, Noblesville, IN; Jonella (John) Black, Evanston, IL.
Their children are: Maureen (Jonathan) Dewitt, Jake Gibbs, Ben Pruitt, Luke Pruitt, Bobby Black, Jessica (Garrick) Nate, John (Cheyenne) Stillson, Rachel (Fran) Guzman, Andrew Sieg, Jonathan Sieg, and great niece Dianna Guzman.
Helen attended St. Joseph Grade School in Shelbyville, IN; St. Mary’s Grade School, Rushville, IN; and graduated from Rushville High School. Helen had her CNA license and did private care for 8 years. After marriage, she was a factory welder for many years until retirement. She always loved the many children she baby-sat for, but most of all, she clearly loved her sidekick dog, Angel, who could sing a song with her. She supported many animal organizations and a pet refuge. She also was a seamstress and did volunteer sewing. She supported her husband in his hobby of collecting and crushing aluminum cans. Most of all she had great faith and loved Christ.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 11am-12noon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1331 E. Hunter Robbins Way, Greensburg, IN 47240. A funeral mass will be held immediately after at 12noon, also at the church. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
