Herman J. Wagner

Herman J. Wagner, 85, of Greensburg, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at the Columbus Regional Hospital.  He was born December 25, 1934 in Napoleon, Indiana the son of Urban Herman and Catherine Amelia (Tunny) Wagner, both deceased. He married Agnes J. Schoettmer on October 26, 1955 and she survives.

Herman worked in the manufacturing world for over 40 years, retiring from Amtrak. He along with his wife, delivered the Greensburg Daily Newspaper for many years. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus, the Knights of St. John, and the Rural Couples.  Herman was an avid bowler, a huge IU and Packers fan, and loved to attend Greensburg Pirates (boys and girls) basketball games.  He loved coaching his children in sports and watching his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s ball games. He enjoyed chicken and fish nights at the K of C’s and his most cherished times were spent with his loving wife, children, and grandchildren.

Along with his wife, Agnes he is survived by two sons, Michael Wagner and Dennis Wagner, both of Greensburg; two daughters, Susan (Joe) Geis and Lisa (Brian) Huff, both of Greensburg; grandchildren, Tiffany Wiley, Brad (Erin) Wiley, Jeffrey (Allison) Rose, Chasity Rose, Jared Wagner, Laura (Ryan) Walsman, Jamie (Zach) Hilton, Dustin Huff; great grandchildren, Chase, Easton, Ripken, Breonna, Aiden, Daniel, Jax, Navy, and Lincoln; brothers, Charles A. Wagner, Al Wagner, Urban Wagner, Sam Wagner, Daniel Wagner; sisters, Amelia Carter, Gail Waltz, Kay Prather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law, Darlene “Dee” Wagner; sister, Eleanor Rolf; brothers, Joseph and Terry Wagner.

While observing CDC and state guidelines for social distancing and required facial coverings, family and friends will gather at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg to pray the rosary. Visitation will follow until the funeral mass to be held at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John Meyer officiating. The mass will be shown live on the funeral home Facebook page.  Interment will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg. The family request in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to the American Diabetes Association.
