Ingrid Land, 83, died Jan. 27, 2025, at Arbor Grove Village, where she had resided since 2019.
She was born in 1941 in Kassel, Germany, and spent her youth in the nearby village of Witzenhausen. It was there she met John Land of Greensburg, a soldier in the U.S. Army, and the two were married in the spring of 1962.
Shortly after their wedding, Ingrid and John returned to Greensburg to raise a family. They were married for 57 years before John’s death in 2019.
Ingrid is survived by her daughter Andrea (John), of Torrance, CA, and son Mark (Karen), of Charlton, NY, as well as her granddaughter, Sara (Taylor).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johannes and Helena Schaum, and sister Helga, all of Germany.
Ingrid taught herself English while raising her two children and became a U.S. citizen in 1976. Ingrid worked at Hardee’s in Greensburg, where she managed the breakfast shift during the 1970s and 1980s.
Until her health declined later in life, Ingrid enjoyed taking walks and riding her bike through the Ryle neighborhood, where she and John lived for more than 40 years. Ingrid also was an avid reader who especially liked spending time with her family and taking day trips throughout Indiana and Ohio.
Consistent with Ingrid’s wishes, there will be no public services. Memorial contributions can be made to the Greensburg-Decatur County Public Library or the charity of one’s choice.
