James D. Moyer passed away Oct. 27 following a brief illness. Born in Randolph County, Jim was the third of Merle and Kathleen (Bailey) Moyer’s eight children. Following graduation from Ridgeville High School, Jim joined the Marine Corps and fought in the Korean War, earning the Korean Service Medal, the UN Service Medal, two Combat Medals, and rising to the rank of Sergeant. He married Martha Landess, and they recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. A skilled tradesman, Jim worked as a mold maker for Overmeyer Mold Co. in Winchester for 10 years and then as a tool and die maker for General Motors in Marion for 30 years, retiring in typical Jim Moyer fashion “to give other guys a chance to put their kids through college.” He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Greensburg.
Throughout his life, Jim enjoyed fishing, gardening and carpentry, but his favorite activity was spending time with family. A family-first man, Jim was present over seven decades for athletic, dance and other performance events involving his three children, five grandsons and six great-grandchildren. More important, he was present in their everyday lives, and they love him dearly.
Per Jim’s wishes, private graveside services will be held. Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg is handling the arrangements.
