James Martin Nobbe

April 14, 1936 — December 20, 2024

James Martin Nobbe "Jim" passed away on December 20, 2024 at Margaret Mary Hospital.  He was born on April 14, 1936 in Decatur County and is the son of William and Alvina (Dwenger) Nobbe.  He was one of nine children and graduated from Clarksburg High School.

He met the love of his life, Theresa Werner, at one of the local dances and proposed to her on Valentine’s Day.  After a short engagement, the couple was wed at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg on August 27, 1960.  They have been married for 64 years.

Farming, faith, and family were dear to Jim’s heart.  He farmed over 160 acres on the home place near Clarksburg.  When he stopped farming, he went on to work for Obermeyer Agri Group until his retirement at age 75.  He was a life-long member of St. Catherine of Siena (St. Maurice) Parish where he helped construct the paneled wall of the sanctuary and spearheaded the Parish picnic chicken frying committee.  He is the proud father of eleven children, grandfather of 28, and great-grandfather of 34 (soon to be 35).  He loved attending games, recitals, and all the celebrations this big family provided.

Jim is survived by his wife, Theresa (Werner) Nobbe and 10 of their children: Bill Nobbe, Debbie (Dave) Schneider, Patty (Larry) Mauer, Kay (John) Schwering, Sam (Joanie) Nobbe, Janet (Jeff) Porter, Fred (Tina) Nobbe, Mindy (Chris) Grunkemeyer, Becky (Dan) Kinker, Joyce (Greg) Moeller; and two sister Eileen (Carl) Moorman and Lucille (Fran) Effinger along with his twenty-eight grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers: John, Richard, Ambrose, Harold, and Raymond Nobbe, one sister, Rosemary Koors; one son, Neal Nobbe; and one great-grandson, Abe Schneider.

Funeral arrangements will be held at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral on Thursday, December 26, 2024, with the rosary at 3 p.m. followed by visitation until 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December, 27th at St. Catherine of Siena Church (Enochsburg Campus).
