John A. Butz

John A. Butz, 84, of Greensburg, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at his home. John was born on November 18, 1937, in Greensburg as the son of Leonard and Inez (Kaster) Butz.

John graduated in 1955 from Greensburg High School. He worked at Colonial Baking, where he retired. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Mary Catholic Church. John was an avid card player and golfer. He was a fierce competitor at whatever he played and hated to lose. He loved his sweets. John was also known to be a penny pincher, but he enjoyed traveling to various places.

He was married to Nancy J. (Cook) Butz on June 20, 1959, and she preceded him in death.

John is survived by his daughter, Beth Ann (David) Moore; sisters: Norma Jean (Herman) Best, Patty (Don) Schroeder; brother, Thomas (Sharon) Butz; grandchildren: Amanda Moore, Shawn (Heather) Moore, Jordan Moore, Blake (Martina) Butz, Brandon Butz; great grandchildren: Grace Moore, Wyatt Moore, Baylor Stephen Butz; very dear friend, Marcy Schutte; sister-in-law, Linda (Tom) Newman; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy Butz; and son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Denise Butz.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. Per John’s wishes a private service will be held at a later date, following his cremation.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be given to the donor’s favorite charity.
