Leona June Peters

Leona June Peters, 89, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Morning Breeze in Greensburg. She was born on July 8, 1933 in Decatur County, the daughter of George L. and Edna L. (Stewart) Schwier.

She was a 1951 graduate of New Point High School. She was a homemaker until the late 1970’s when she became a nurses aide at Decatur County Community Hospital. She later worked at K-Mart, Expression Florist, and then a foster grandparent for the Greensburg Elementary School. She was a member of the AOA Sorority, American Baptist Women, and was a Hospice volunteer.

Leona loved to play cards with her family and friends. She enjoyed attending her grandkids sporting events and other activities.

She was married to Donald L. Peters on November 21, 1951 and he survives.

She is also survived by children, Greg Peters, Peggy Welsh, Brad Peters, and Eric Peters; daughter-in-law, Linda Peters; sisters, Marita Stevens and Joyce Marlene Schuler; grandchildren, Zach (Brittany) Welsh, Blake Welsh, Zoe Peters, Janna Peters, and Clara Peters; great grandchildren, Lilli, Sam, and Emma Welsh.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Eddie Joe Peters; son-in-law, Larry Welsh; brothers, Henry Layne Schwier and Glenn Schwier.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, from 9 to 11:00 a.m. at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Rossburg Cemetery in New Point.  Memorials may be made to the “Our Hospice of South Central Indiana”.
