Raymond E. “Ray” Sample, 77, of Greensburg passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. Ray was born on September 29, 1941 in Bullitt County, Kentucky to Charles O. and Helen R. (DeSpain) Sample. Ray attended Paoli High School before enlisting in the Army. He served in the Army from 1961 to 1964 and was stationed at Hanau, Germany. Ray worked for Bohn Aluminum, which later became M.L.S. for 40 years before retirement. Ray was a former member of the American Legion Post 129 in Greensburg. Ray married Elizabeth R. “Betty” Greiwe on October 22, 1966 and she survives. Survivors include, his wife; Betty Sample, son; Keith Sample, two daughters; Vicki (Steve) Zeigler, Connie (Delmar) Davis, two brothers; Harold (Tammy) Sample, Robert Sample, and 5 grandchildren; Clayton (Ashlee) Zeigler, Samantha Zeigler and fiancé, Nik, Colton Davis, Kinsey Sample, and Corrigon Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 10 from 4-8 pm. Funeral Services will be held at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home on Thursday, April 11 at 11:00 am with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Burial and military graveside rites will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.
