Vernon Alfred Wilmer

July 3, 1934 — January 25, 2022

Vernon Alfred Wilmer, 87, passed away peacefully from this life into heaven on January 25, 2022.  He was born in Millhousen on July 3, 1934 to Joseph J. and Marie (Bruns) Wilmer.  He was the youngest of five children.

He married the love of his life, Mary Ann Greiwe, on June 13, 1959 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greensburg.  After a few years of factory work, Vernon was drafted into the U.S. Army.  He served from 1957 to 1959, serving much of his time in Germany.  After the service, his career included electrical and construction work, carpet installation, as well as working for Hillenbrand Industries and the State Highway Department.  Ultimately, Vernon started his own business, a lifelong dream of his.  His work focused on plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work, but where Vernon shined his best, was in his personal connections to his customers.  Through his work, he valued many special relationships.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Urban and Raymond; sisters: Edna Harp and Alvina Hodapp; as well as his oldest daughter, Diana (John) Davis.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his children: Rita (Dave) Geis, Shirley (Jack) Rich, Karen (Tom) White, Brenda (Keith) Clark, and Carl (Jill Wesseler) Wilmer.  Vernon and Mary Ann have been blessed with grandchildren: Bruce Davis (Vess Miller), Matt (Taylor) Davis, Eric (Erica) Davis, Adria (Carlton) Racette, Grant Geis (Jenny Siebert), Travis (Mandy) Rich, Ethan Rich, Thom (Meghan) White, Jr., Lindsey (Kris) Hortemiller, Molly White (Aaron Stirn), Quinlyn Clark, Meggie Clark, Olivia Wilmer, Emma Wilmer, & Ava Wilmer; great-grandchildren: Lennon, Nick, Addy, Tanner, Keira, Alexandra, Liam, Collin, Lucie, Evangeline, Titus, Ace, Felicity, Bianca, Robert, Oliver, Eden, J.J. and Layken.

Family and friends will gather at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church to pray the rosary.  Visitation will follow with the funeral mass to begin at 11:00 with Father John Meyer officiating.  Interment will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
