William R. Davis, 83, passed away at his home on April 15, 2025. William was born on May 11, 1941, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Harold Duane Davis and Mary (Babcock) Davis.
William was a retired Army Veteran. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army on October 31, 1965. He was a retired truck driver for Dolly Madison bakery in Columbus, Indiana and a retired school bus driver for the Bartholomew County School Corporation.
William enjoyed going to the Conservation Club in Bartholomew County to the rifle range and shooting his guns. He enjoyed taking his dog, Max, to the Conservation Club to walk around and enjoy the outdoors. William also enjoyed listening to music and sitting on his front porch listening to his wind chimes. He enjoyed reading his newspapers daily, drinking beer, and smoking his cigars. William especially enjoyed all of his vehicles, whether it was a car, truck, or Jeep and was always very proud to show them off. William always loved visiting with his kids and his grandkids and always had stories to tell. He was very proud of his two army grandsons Spenser, a retired Army Vet, and Ryan, who is still currently serving as a Sergeant at Fort Sill in Oklahoma.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan (Greg) of Greensburg, IN; son, Dwayne (Melissa) of Carthage, IN; and daughter, Sonda (Brian) of Seymour, IN. Grandchildren include Spenser (Ammie) Smith, Cory Williams, Ryan (Emily) Williams, William Clapp, Shane (Maddie) Clapp, Amanda Williams, Matthew Williams, Victoria (Brad) Rolf. Great grandchildren include Ruthie Williams, Blakely Williams, Christian (Tristian) Hernandez, Sam Hernandez, Brooklyn Sanders and a great-great grandchild on the way. William is also survived by his sister Diana Potter.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A memorial service will start at 4:00 PM, also at the funeral home, with military honors afterwards.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation to help veterans in need. The family would also like to thank Mike Porter, Russell Beckner, and the entire Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home staff for their assistance and loving care during this difficult time.
