Hilda M. Grote

Hilda Grote, 100, Greensburg, died at 3:35 p.m., Wednesday October 13, 2010 in Greensburg. Born April 2, 1910, in St. Maurice, In., she was the daughter of Anthony and Elizabeth (Berkemeier) Mauer. She married Leonard Grote on May 16, 1934. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Decatur County. She was known for her hard work, loving spirit and kind heart. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a 50 year member of the St. Lawrence Auxiliary. She is survived by her sons, Eugene (Elaine) Grote , Marvin Grote, Vincent (Shelley) Grote of Greensburg, John (Mary) Grote of Chickasha, OK and Gerald (Linda) Grote of Connersville; One sister, Mildred Mauer of Indianapolis; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, son Gilbert Grote, daughter Mary Ann Grote, grandchildren, Byron, Julia, and Adam Grote. Sisters, Pauline Muckerheide, Christine Kramer and brothers, Joseph Mauer and Norbert Mauer. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 18th at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Reverend Lucas officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, October 17, 2010 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home. A public rosary will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Memorials can be made to Decatur County Hospice or St. Mary’s School.
